From Bockum-Hövel to a global market – every day Hesse produces around 100 tonnes of lacquer and stains based on 45,000 different formulations. Our formulations are constantly being developed in order to meet the changing requirements of the market, in particular in terms of environmental protection.
In doing so, solvent-free and environmentally free solutions play an ever-increasing role. Hesse’s quality control system ensures a consistently high level of quality. Our range of products ranges from coloured oil for parquet layers, through lacquers for interior design and the furniture industry, right up to products for film coating in major industry.
When strategically developing the range, particular emphasis is placed on environmentally friendly water-based lacquers, modern UV systems and products from sustainable raw materials. Traditional products such as solvent-based polyurethane lacquers are the foundation of our range.

The most modern production facilities ensure production of quality products. Hesse does not just pay lip service to quality, it is firmly rooted in every process. Every batch of raw materials is subjected to an intensive goods-inward inspection, every production line is inspected for the widest range of parameters and safety is considered and tested from the earliest development stage of new products or procedures.
Emissions are continually reduced by the constant modernisation of our facilities. A team of experts from development, planning, production, health and safety, environmental protection and fire prevention ensure Quality management implementation. Imminent plans for a better tomorrow:
modern lacquer systems to achieve a sustainable future
As a family-run company with intergenerational history, we feel compelled to assume responsibility for subsequent generations. We have therefore decided to restructure our product range: by 2030 we will have replaced all solvent-based products in our product range with sustainable alternatives and will be making greater use of regenerative raw materials. Our goals are to reduce the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and to achieve maximum resource conservation. This will enable us to make an active contribution to preserving a world worth living in for future generations and to meet future market requirements.
What does this mean for you?
The restructuring of our product range will result in some changes for our customers: we will be removing our nitrocellulose lacquers, solvent-based stains and solvent-based, acid-hardening lacquers from our product range by the end of 2023. Hesse Lignal will therefore no longer be offering such products from January 2024. A further step involves us replacing all other solvent-based lacquers with sustainable alternatives by 2030.
